Scanners-is it just a photographic copy or is ink some how being used?
if I use my scanner (HP 6310 all in one) to scan about 20 documents per day-does it cause any strain on the ink(to some degree)? I notice that my ink is diminishing quite a bit, and I am trying to determine if the scanner is causing the problem. I don't really think that scanners use any ink-but with technology you never know whats going on.

Scanners read in the information from the picture and then software converts it to a file on your computer.
No ink is used in this process. The strain on your ink is either from printing, or with InkJet printers, the ink will dry out over time even if you aren't printing.

As DT said ... if you're scanning them as files onto your Computer ... no ink is used ... If, on the other hand, you're just doing a copy scan and having them print out onto paper as copies ... then yes you are using the ink in your multifunction centre
