reloading BIOS? - right now says "operating system not found"............?
I have an HP Pavilion 7840 desktop that I use to do all my work on because of the wonderful programs, so I usually dont use it for internet (matter of fact I havent used for internet in a few years.) It's always been clean of viruses etc. - worked great.
I moved so I havent used the desktop in 2 months. Today, I turned it on so that I could save and transfer the many important files that I have (since I will be using many of them now.)
But when I turned it on, it said "operating system not found". I'm in a panic over my files and pics!!!
Im in the Phoenix BIOS Setup Utility, but I'm unsure of what to do.
I've read a lot of confusing information on the web. The one thing I do see is an option to "reload BIOS setup defaults" --or-- to "load default configuration" under the hard drive option & the network boot option.
What will reloading the BIOS do, meaning will it delete my files (because that will not be an option for me! tooo critical!)
Or what about reconfiguring the hard drive or network boot?
Obviously I'm not tech savvy - any light shed is greatly appreciated.**
Please help! Thanks so much!!!

Best Answer:
Don't panic.
Don't change anything in the BIOS.
Do NOT reconfigure the harddrive!!
Shut down the HP and open it up. Remove the HD.
Get a IDE - USB adapter and use that to connect the HP HD to the new system.
Transfer your files.
