what does the power supply unit do? |
|
Best Answer: It takes the electricity out of your wall and converts/conditions it to a form of electricity that's safe for your computer to use. It then distributes power to all the various parts inside your machine. If you want a more technical answer: It converts AC current into DC, then steps down the voltage from whatever your wall voltage is for your region into the 3, 5, and 12 volts that your various components need. It then distributes the power along several circuits (usually referred to as "rails"). Psupplies also usually have large capacitors to help regulate the voltage and keep it steady inside the computer. View more answers to this question. |
