XP Pro Borrows More Time

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Windows XP Professional Well, it’s happened again – Microsoft has listened to the throngs of people asking to extend sales of Windows XP Professional. Windows XP Pro will be available now through May 30, 2009.

With Windows 7 in Public Beta as of tomorrow, I don’t foresee this date being extended again. By the way, Microsoft has announced the Windows 7 (The next version soon to replace Vista) will be available as a Trial Free download starting tomorrow, Friday, January 9, 2009. This is the first time that Microsoft has publicly released a Beta version of one of their operating systems. I hope that this advance testing will help with the stability and reliability of Windows 7 when it is officially released.

You can’t get XP Pro on your computer at traditional “Big Box” retailers, but you can still get it from guys like us.

Thank you Microsoft.

The end of Windows XP? (Take 3)

Windows XP Professional

Windows XP Professional

Microsoft has announced for the third  (and possibly final) time that sales of Windows XP will be completely discontinued as of January 31, 2009.

Microsoft has already discontinued sale of Windows XP for all major retailers, and has limited Windows XP sales to the “channel resellers” (guys like On-Site) since June 30, 2008.

This End Of Sales date applies to: Windows XP Home, Windows XP Pro, Windows XP Media Center, Windows XP Tablet PC, and Windows XP Pro 64 Bit

According to Microsoft sources, the only Windows XP that will be available after January 31, 2009 will be Ultra-low cost PCs (ULCPC). This is a concession that Microsoft has made to allow companies to continue to build systems that don’t have enough power to run Windows Vista.

If you are looking for a PC that runs Windows XP, you can still get one from On-Site (at least through January 31, 2009.) If you want Vista, we’ve got that too.

ps. FYI, Vista Business Comes with downgrade rights, so if you really, really want Windows XP even after you can’t buy XP anymore, we can still hook you up with it.
